Welcome To Festi Guide!! 'Festi' is short for 'Music Festival' and the type of 'Festies' I am devoted to on this site are those which cater towards the 'Jam Band' scene in particular. The jam band scene is a collection of improvisational rock, funk, jazz, folk, bluegrass and electronic artists as well as many other branches associated with these genres of music and creative fusions of these various music styles. Contrary to the view of an outsider who has never experienced a jam music festival, a festi is more than a collection of concerts spread out over the span of a few days. Festies are host to many great musicians and artists both local and national who display and create their artwork at live shows. You can tell a good festival from a festival that is lacking by the type of atmosphere they provide. A good festival will go the extra mile with artwork, sculptures, fire shows, and many other creative displays which transform the venue that the festi takes place in into an unreal wild weekend escape from reality "Reality is a condition caused by the absence of Bonnaroo"(-Jeff Pechow). A festival is just as much about the community and interaction of the festival goers with one another as it is about the enjoyment of live music and art and this fact becomes more apparent the smaller the music festival is (See the post "Does Size Matter?" for more on this).
In short a festi is about vibrant music, beautiful artwork, fun-loving people, good times and an escape from the 'everyday'. A good music festival is one of those things in life which cant be broken down into particular bits and pieces in order to convey the experience to another person as it is beyond anything in everyday life to which one might attempt to relate it to, but on this site I will do my best to introduce those who are new to the festival scene or contemplating taking on their first festival to a bit of what to expect as well as to provide those well-seasoned festi goers with information relevant to upcoming festivals and updates in the festival community.
